SELF is a juried exhibition based on variations of the theme of selfhood. What is a self? What does it mean to have a self? Self-portraits are welcome, as are more abstracted explorations of the question: who is this “I” of whom I speak?

Sponsored by Waco Friends of Jung Society, SELF explores the vital interplay between artistic creation and the underpinnings of human awareness. Special events surrounding the show include presentations by guest speakers, artist discussions, and a self-portrait workshop centered on Jungian ideas about art, life, and the meaning of being human.

The Croft Art Gallery is honored to welcome Aaron Sacco as our juror for SELF.

Aaron Sacco graduated from Baylor University with a BFA in 2004 and soon after was hired to work as an animator on Richard Linklater¹s A Scanner Darkly. Since then he has produced artwork for a variety of clients such as Charles Schwab and ESPN Magazine, painted murals for business and residential purposes, and regularly contributes to a number of group art exhibits.  He won "Best in Show" at the Radical Nautical exhibit at Gallery Lombardi in Austin in 2007, which won an Austin Critics¹ Table Award for the best group show. Mr. Sacco’s juror’s statement follows.

"Your special task is to advance the meaning and expand our understanding of  "SELF."  I will be looking for works that articulate, stimulate, and fearlessly explore this concept in a personal or universal way."
